Living in Guatemala as a Peace Corps Volunteer can get pretty boring. There are long stretches of time where there's just not much to do -- you've done all the work for the day, all the shops are closed because everyone's inside eating lunch or there's another protest that closed schools, streets and government buildings.
But August has been pretty different. We celebrated my town's fair, my host cousin's baby had his first birthday, and I've finally started putting pen to paper on the next steps regarding my Host Country Agency garden project and we have made some headway with getting the project framework set and reaching out to other agencies. We have a plan to start our work in November (fingers crossed!)
I must say: I am loving my new role as a PCVL. Although we are still having issues with ever-changing red zones, travel restrictions and vacation vs. work day strife, I've pretty much settled into my role here and am pretty happy with what I have been able to accomplish in the past 5 months.
The past 5 months. Wow, that means, more or less, that I've basically got only 7 more months here in Guatemala with Peace Corps. It's amazing how time flies...
P.S. Yes, I've been very in tune to the Presidential elections and to the protests that have been happening, but my gut is telling me not to discuss it on this blog. In the meantime, I'll leave some pretty pictures of Guatemala...
